How to make handmade soap -
the 5 step method
People from all over the world have been making
soap in order to cleanse their bodies, wash their clothes, wash their eating
utensils, and keep their households clean for centuries. Although soaps come
in many different shapes and forms including detergent powders, thick soapy
liquids, and of course traditional soap bars, the soap making method of the
new times is basically the same as it ever was. The only difference between
the old soap making ways and the new times basically lies in the advancement
of newer products, ingredients and fragrances. That being said, we are going
to discuss how to make soap from home using the basic 5 step soap making
method.
There are literally about five steps involved in
the soap making method. In order to learn how to make soap, you have to
understand these basic concepts in order to be able to make more creative
and exotic soap blends in the future. The 5 steps to soap making are;
finding a soap recipe, gathering the soap making ingredients, melting the
soap base, pouring the soap blend into the soap molds, and curing the soap.
Below we will cover these procedures in detail.
Step 1:
The first thing you want to do when learning how to make soap is to get
yourself a really good soap making recipe. There are plenty of books
available today that offer some really fantastic soap recipes and you can
start with one of those.
Step 2:
The second step is to gather up all the soap making materials you will need
to make your batch. Usually you will require soap base chips, soap making
molds and fragrances. You can find all of these materials at your local
crafts store.
Step 3:
Step 3 will require a crock pot or double boiler so that you can engage in
what we call the soap melting process. You will need to melt the soap base
thoroughly on the crock pot using indirect heat. Once it has melted
completely, you can add the fragrance oils of your choice.
Step 4:
Now you are going to pour the melted soap base onto the soap molds. Unless
you are planning on making small soap bars, one soap mold is usually enough
for the soap base. Once you pour the soap onto the molds, you must let it
sit for about 24 hours for it to cool and form.
Step 5:
Finally, the last step in the soap making method is to allow for proper
curing. This process is very important because it allows the soap to soften
up and mature which in turn makes the soap milder and more delicate on the
skin. This is due to the softening of the glycerin.
As you can see, making your own soap is not that
difficult. However, these are just the basic steps to the soap making
method. There are vast number of ways to make your own soap which will allow
you to be more creative with your shapes, fragrances, and color. Discover
