Before we start let’s quickly go through everything you will need:
•
Mosaic Tiles
• Ceramic platter
• Grouting
• Cold glue
• A wooden stick for mixing and applying the grouting
• A pair of tile cutters or/
• A hammer
Got everything? Okay, let's get started!

Consider your tiles carefully and think about a pattern that you would like
to produce on your platter. Draw the design onto the platter in pencil so if
you are not happy with your design you can rub it out and start over again.
Once you have thought out your pattern you need to cut (or break) your
tiles. Score and cut the tiles with cutters in the design you need for your
project. Lay your pieces out on the ceramic platter first without sticking
them to see that the pattern works, as you would like it to. Once you are
happy with the way the pieces fit you can put a small amount of cold glue on
the back of each tile piece and stick it down in position. When your pattern
is all stuck down leave your project for about an hour to allow the glue to
set.
Then put your grout in a small bowl and add hot water till it reaches a
thick porridge consistency. Apply your grout with your stick making sure it
gets into all the small spaces. You can even tap your project on the table
for the grout to run smooth and to release the air bubbles. With your finger
gently (very gently, remember that you are dealing with glass) wipe off all
the excess grout. Leave your project for about an hour and then with a
slightly damp cloth wipe the top and sides of the project to get a smooth
even finish.
Once the grout has set, you are then ready to paint or varnish the back of
the platter.
Place you mosaic platter somewhere special so everyone can admire it.
